Beget is a small village, declared Patrimony of National Interest and considered one of the most beautiful villages in Catalonia, located in the municipality of Vall de Camprodon, but located in the EIN of the Alta Garrotxa. The entrance to the magnificent church of Sant Cristòfor de Beget from the 12th century is guarded by the majesty of Beget, a Romanesque sculpture of Christ the Majesty dressed in tunic and unique in its style in Catalonia, also from the 12th century. Begetins and begetines are especially grateful to Josep Duñach, popularly called Feliça (grandfather of the house), for his esteem in the heritage of the town. It is well known that during the Republican era, many churches suffered the burning of much of their heritage. In Feliça, at that time Mayor of Beget, he knew via telephone (Beget was one of the first places that he had, due to his lack of accessibility and to facilitate electoral results), that the reds went to Beget to burn all the images that contained the church of San Cristóbal. He brought together the neighbors and proposed removing benches and chairs from the church, hiding the Majesty under the ladder of the boys’ school and upholstering it, closing the church and making a great pile. When those of the FAI de Sant Joan arrived in Feliça said that they had already done the work and that they had burned the church’s content. The militiamen marched, ignoring that the Majesty had been saved.
The town, all of stone and with beautifully restored houses, allows a peaceful walk, breathing pure air and in full nature. Two rivers flow through the village: the Rocabruna stream and the Can França or Trull stream. Both allow you to enjoy a refreshing bath and clean and transparent water. Less than 3km from the village and in the direction of Oix, the Corrave rafts are located, with a great depth. The birth of the river is close: about 30 minutes on foot passing through the street that leads to the rooms of Hostal El Forn.
If you want to go hiking is the ideal place. To the north you can visit Comanegra, Pico de las Brujas and if you want to make a brief introduction to the neighboring country: France. To the east you can take routes along the river. To the south you can go to Oix and west to the Salarça hermitage, the Bolos Valley, Rocabruna and even reach Camprodon.
